Component Report Update: Motor & Driver Vibe Check

The DRV2605L driver has 123 effects within its “basic” effect package. For the following tests, I will compare each vibrating motor with the same effect, 118 - Long buzz for programmatic stopping - 100%. This effect produces the longest consistent vibration each time it is played, at 100% strength, making it easier to see each motor at its full vibrating capacity.

1. Vibration ERM Motor ZJQ24-35F580C

  • RPM: 2550

  • Voltage: 5V

  • Dimension: Round - 0.961" Dia (24.40mm)

  • Vibration strength: 10/10

  • Vibration note: This motor is the biggest of all the ones I purchased. Its vibration is very strong, showing drastic movements in my fingers while I’m holding it.

  • Application: Due to its size, this motor would be suitable for bigger projects that need noticeable vibrating power. It is strong enough to have an earthquake effect on whatever it is installed in. Mounting this motor well is crucial to its sturdiness in performance, or else it would fly around everywhere. Consider making a snug jig.

  • RPM: 15000

  • Voltage: 3V

  • Dimension: 0.181" (4.60mm) Dia x 0.492” (12.5mm) Height

  • Vibration strength: 8/10

  • Vibration note: This motor is quite powerful in vibration strength despite its miniature size. The vibration is strong, but concentrated to a small surface area. Compared to the bigger motor, I would say this has a more intense sensation to the immediate touch. However, it will not be able to make objects visibly move like the bigger motor can.

  • Application: I think this motor is great for small, cylindrical shaped objects that has hollow space to house it.

3. DC Mobile Phone Coin Flat Vibration Motor

  • RPM: 12000

  • Voltage: 3V

  • Dimension: Round - 0.393" (10mm) Dia x 0.137” (3.5mm) Height

  • Weight: 0.353 ounces

  • Vibration strength: 7/10

  • Vibration note: This gets hot quick! The vibration is substantial for its size.

  • Application: Good for flat housing, like phones.

4. DC Micro Waterproof Vibration Motor Coreless Motor

  • RPM: 8000 - 24000

  • Voltage: 1.5 - 3V

  • Dimension: 0.275" (7mm) Dia x 0.984” (25mm) Height

  • Weight: 0.128 ounces (3.65 grams)

  • Vibration strength: 10/10

  • Vibration note: Amazing strength in this little bullet! I was surprised to feel how strong the vibration is. It is comparable to the strength of the bigger 2550 RRM vibrating motor, but more concentrated to a small surface area.

  • Application: The encapsulation makes this waterproof, which is great for toys, toothbrushes, or other objects that may be exposed to liquids.
