Creating a tutorial video on my phone

For my Hand Held homework, we were tasked to make a piece of art with our phone. I created a tutorial video for how to make Thai Iced Coffee+Tea, using the Splice app. This was my first time ever editing an entire landscape video on my phone that wasn’t specifically made for social media (like Instagram story).

Process

I filmed each step separately with my iPhone, and imported them into Splice.

I chose an aspect ratio and arranged the footage in my desired order, trimming parts that were unnecessary. The app made this process extremely easy. Once everything was in place, I added text to describe each step. The app gave me a decent amount of typeface options.

I saw that this app has music options to choose from, but I also had the option of importing my own music. I downloaded Aruarian Dance by Nujabes onto my phone and added it to my Splice project. The app has nice transitions to choose from too, so I added fade-in and fade-out to the song.

Finally, I added a filter to my entire project, to soften up the colors in my video. I exported in full HD, though 4K is also available as an export option in this app!

The video is up on YouTube and has been used for an ITP Cooking Flyby. I would normally edit this kind of video on Adobe Premiere Pro, but decided to keep everything on my phone, just out of curiosity and convenience. It turned out really well, and was so simple to create! I will definitely be making more videos on my phone going forward.
